When Marco joined our secondary school, it was clear that he was a very academically gifted student. He was also however, a bit of a rebel. He walked around school with his shirt sleeves rolled up and no jacket or jumper EVER, even in the snow! He got himself into more than one scrape (and got me into a couple too if I remember rightly) but he was kind, loyal, caring and would take the time to help anyone who needed it. 

He was my first love. We had a great love and great dreams to match. At 16 we thought we’d be together forever and take over the world. In the end it was not to be. But I cherish the time we had as it taught us both so much about each other and ourselves. 

I last heard from Marco shortly after I had my son and it was so wonderful to hear how successful he had become. I knew the Academic would outweigh the Rebel in the end!

They say that your first love will always have a special place in your heart, and Marco will always have a special place in mine.
